Kiana A.
Hello my name is Kiana. I was born and raised in Vallejo CA and I’m currently residing in American Canyon. I am a full time student at Solano Community College working on my Associate transfer degree in sociology. After I graduate from Solano my primary goal is to attend Sacramento State to get a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Working with children has always been a passion of mine and ever since I was younger. I was introduced to work with kids in 2015 at my current school as a student intern at the early learning center. WIth this program I work with children from the ages of 18 months to 2 years old. This encouraged me that working with children was my calling, I enjoy creating daily activities that practice their gross and fine motor skills such as art activities and dramatic play. This job was rewarding in many ways because you can see their development as they grow older and you gain a bond with these children and their own families which was the best part of my job.
The following year I had an opportunity to move to Illinois with my uncle and his wife where I had an opportunity to work with children of all ages. I worked as a program assistant from 2016-2019 at the Navy Child Youth Program. My primary age group I worked with were school aged children from ages 5 to 12 years old. This program was primarily a before and after school program. With that being said when the children were at school we were often sent to the CDC to take care of infants and preschoolers. Overall the age group I enjoy working with the most are infants and toddlers. I think this age group is the best for me because they are so curious and energetic. My favorite activities I enjoy doing with the kids are cooking, baking, dancing, and art projects. Working with kids of all ages allowed me to adapt to be a great multitask. I’m a nurturing and passionate person that always wanted to work with children.
